Fire Destroys Travel Trailer At Mammoth Pool Trailer Park

NORTH FORK — Quick work by neighbors and firefighters kept a trailer fire from spreading to the surround properties and dry vegetation this afternoon.

At 5:25 p.m., reports came in of a travel trailer on fire at the Mammoth Pool Trailer Park on Road 225 near Italian Bar Road.

When neighbors in the tightly clustered community saw the smoke, they raced to grab hoses and shovels and do what they could to stop the spread of the fire.

With very little water pressure and the trailer quickly consumed by flames, they focused their attention on protecting the surrounding homes, wetting down vegetation and adjacent trailers.

Cal Fire Engines 4255 and 4275 from the Rancheria Station were on scene within about 10 minutes, to find the trailer fully engulfed. They had the fire extinguished within minutes, and kept it from spreading to other residences. All other resources not at scene were cancelled.

The manager of the park said he had gone to the 30-foot trailer to check the water heater. He said he checked the vents and everything seemed to be in order. However, moments after lighting the pilot, the fire started and quickly spread.

No one was reported to have been injured, but the two occupants of the trailer have lost everything.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
