Fiction Writing Workshop For Aspiring Authors

OAKHURST – As part of the Oakhurst Branch Library’s community offerings, local author Jennifer Moss will be giving a 6-week Fiction Writing Workshop for aspiring authors. The workshop will cover the basic elements of storytelling, fiction writing, and today’s publishing industry.

“In my workshops, I use examples from literature, movies and television, because those are our current storytelling mediums and people understand them,” explains Moss.

Workshop topics will include building dynamic characters, creating worlds, plot structure, scene setting, point of view, voice, and more. Moss has conducted successful summer writing workshops for teens the last three years, and has since received requests for adult classes.

“Although the workshop is geared towards beginning writers, we will not be going over spelling, grammar or sentence structure,” Moss says. “The workshop is geared more toward creating a sellable story.”

“Black Opal is an indie publisher and Perigee is one of the Big Six,” states Moss. “I’ve also self-published a novella. So I can speak on all three aspects of the industry.”

The Fiction Writing Workshop will begin Wednesday, Sept. 30 and continue each Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 8 p.m. for six weeks in the Oakhurst Library Community Room. A suggested donation of $60 for all six classes is encouraged.
