Fatal Accident Near Raymond Results in DUI Arrest

RAYMOND – A Modesto man killed in a motor vehicle accident near Raymond has been identified as 55-year old Ronald Gene McAnally.

On Monday, Nov. 5, McAnally was passenger in a 1995 Honda Accord, being driven by his 17-year-old nephew. The vehicle was northbound on Road 800, just south of Road 820, traveling at 35 to 40 mph, according to a news release from the CHP.McAnally, who was in the right front passenger seat, reportedly pulled the lever for the emergency brake, causing the driver to lose control. The Honda left the roadway and overturned into a tree.

The CHP reports that McAnally sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-year-old passenger in the rear seat was not injured.

The 17-year-old driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Madera Community Hospital for treatment.

After medical clearance from the hospital, the driver was arrested and transported to the Madera County Juvenile Detention Center. There he was booked on charges of felony DUI resulting in injury or death, and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated without gross negligence.

The accident is still under investigation. The names of the minors involved are not being released.
