Family Freedom Fest July 4th

COARSEGOLD – Citizens are invited to the fourth Family Freedom Fest on Thursday, July 4, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Historic Coarsegold Village. Organizers have planned a free community event that “celebrates and honors our American Heritage, the Declaration of Independence, our Constitution, our Military and the open expression of how we can preserve our freedoms.”

Parking at the event lot is $2 per car.

Festivities will begin with a color guard by the Yosemite High School Cadets Corps, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem and “God Bless America.”

Steven Meyers of the Four Square Church in Oakhurst will lead the crowd in an opening prayer.

There will be speakers on the main stage with music and activities interspersed though out the day, including pony rides for children.

Vendors will offer great food including barbeque, and the event is shaping up to be “good old fashioned patriotic fun for all ages.”

Dr. Bill Atwood will serve as the emcee again this year. Atwood is an award-winning columnist, public school teacher and administrator who has been part of the Family Freedom Fest since its inception four years ago.

Organizers say Atwood’s favorite part of the event is the yearly reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Upbeat patriotic music will be provided by the Lamars Leather Band, back for a return engagement due to popular demand. Jen Piccolotti and her daughter Lyric, and Alpha Falls and her son Nathan will be singing duets.

Piccolotti is directing the children’s choir that will perform an original song by Sandy Wilbur, complete with rap and the words to the preamble of the Constitution, called “We the People.”

The day’s speakers will include Jim Franklin, Pastor of Cornerstone Church in Fresno, host of his own syndicated radio program and co-owner of a central valley conservative talk radio station.

Next up at the podium will be businessman, rancher and State Assemblyman Frank Bigelow, representing California’s 5th district. Bigelow is a life-long member of the National Rifle Association and his talk at Freedom Fest will center around 2nd Amendment rights.

Keynote speaker Evan Sayet is considered to be one of the nation’s leading conservative political comedians and is the author of “The KinderGarden of Eden: How the Modern Liberal Thinks.”

Dr. Karen Siegemund is a scientist, teacher, mother and founder of “Rage Against the Media,” an organization dedicated to factual reporting by news media.

Fresno State University’s new student body president Moses Menchaca is a political science major whose message and mission is “Reaching the Youth: Making American Ideals ‘Cool’ Again.”

Veteran and Madera County District 3 Supervisor Rick Farinelli is the grandson of immigrants and was raised on a family farm in Madera, who vows to make change for the better, “One City, One County, One State at a Time.”

Yosemite High School graduate Aaron Hyde is a campaign consultant and political science major at Fresno State University. He has been the Voter Registration Coordinator and Director of Fundraising for the Republican Party at Monterey Peninsula College. Hyde will present a call to action.

Organizers encourage all to attend. A large tent will provide some shade with misters for cooling. Chairs and picnic tables are provided and insiders suggest you bring a lawn chair for ultimate comfort.
