Widely known for performances at the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, North Fork’s Squirrel Cage Theatre Company shows, community events, weddings, parties, and various other venues up and down the state, Sugar Pine features vocal harmonies and a wide variety of musical genres from folk to classic rock, country, and original songs.
The band consists of Chuck Thrapp (lead vocals, rhythm guitar); David Novell (nylon string guitar, vocals, and harmonicas); Robyn Flory (vocal harmonies and percussion); Jeff Gurule (banjos, tenor guitar, and vocals); and Ron “Bearrrr” Murray (bass and vocals). Thrapp and Novell are founding members, having started the group in 1982; Flory became part of the band in 1987; Gurule joined in 2014, and Murray was added in 2016.
Sugar Pine, called by one journalist “a secret treasure of the Sierra”, continues to thrill audiences with dynamic shows, offering a blend of beautiful vocals, instrumental mastery, humor, and warmth.
