Early Morning House Fire On Golden Ball Drive

OAKHURST — Firefighters were called out just after 5 a.m. this morning for reports of a structure fire in the 38000 block of Golden Ball Drive just off Road 426.

The first engine at scene reported heavy smoke and flames on one end of the single-story, 1500 square foot home.

The two residents were asleep when the fire broke out, and were awakened by their dog and the smoke alarm. They were able to get out safely.

After getting the fire knocked down from the ground, firefighters used a chainsaw to cut through the roof to stop the spread through the attic.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding vegetation, nearby homes and the detached garage.

By 6:21 a.m., the fire was contained, with an estimated 30 to 45 minutes for control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
