OAKHURST – A single vehicle accident on Highway 49 was apparently the result of the driver falling asleep at the wheel, according to the CHP.
Thomas Ziegler, 69, of Oakhurst, was driving his Chrysler Pacifica southbound on Highway 49 at 12:05 p.m. on Friday, Jan 11, just south of Harmony Lane, when he apparently fell asleep, allowing his vehicle to leave the roadway and travel over the embankment and into a tree.
The vehicle sustained major damage to the front and passenger side, and was towed from the scene. Cal Fire and CHP responded to the accident, along with Doc’s Towing.
Ziegler’s wife was a passenger in the vehicle, and both were uninjured in the crash.
