Deputies Investigate Possible Abduction Attempt

OAKHURST — The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports of a man who chased a 13-year-old boy as he walked along the trail near Oakhurst Community Park yesterday.

The young man was walking home from Pete’s just after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 27, and took a short cut along the River Walk. As he walked along the trail, a man reportedly came out of the bushes and demanded that the boy “come here.”

The boy immediately began running and the man reportedly ran after him. Being unable to catch up to the boy, the man then stopped chasing him and went back towards the park. The boy ran to the Boys & Girls Club, where law enforcement was notified.

According to Madera County Sheriff’s Commander Bill Ward, the man is a white male in his late 40s or early 50s, approximately 5’8″ tall, wearing a red and gray flannel jacket and a black beanie cap.

Anyone with information about this individual is asked to contact the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at 559-675-7770 or Valley Crime Stoppers at 888-498-STOP (7867).
