Deep-Pit BBQ For Cedar Valley Fire Department

OAKHURST – Just saying the words “Cedar Valley Deep-Pit BBQ” can make the mouth water. Fortunately, the much-anticipated Cedar Valley Fire Department Deep-Pit BBQ and Raffle is this weekend, so you won’t have to wait much longer to indulge.

The event is on Saturday, Sept. 3 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. and everyone is invited.

This is an important fundraiser for Cedar Valley’s Station 18. Their local area covers north to Yosemite, and south to Oakhurst, yet these firefighters and their equipment can be seen on incidents all over the mountains, wherever they are needed.

They begin preparing for this event on Friday by placing delicious aged roast meat in a closed deep pit, where it slowly cooks for nearly 24 hours. The meal includes all-you-can-eat BBQ, plus salad, french bread, beans and a cookie.

They couldn’t do it without the dedication and support of their fire department auxiliary members, who are responsible for making each year’s BBQ a success. Auxiliary president Eldine Stillman gives all the credit to her troops.

“The auxiliary consists of excellent people who make this event possible. I would be completely overwhelmed and lost without the support of the auxiliary members. They deserve all the credit!”

With so many local engines and crews gone to the larger regional fires this summer, these Paid Call Firefighters (PCFs) are even more crucial to our fire protection. PCFs pay for most of their own training and equipment, and give thousands of hours in service to their communities. They deserve all our support, and offer everyone a wonderful afternoon in the bargain!

The cost is $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 2 years to 10 years. Beverages are available at an extra cost.

Cedar Valley Fire Station 18 is located at 44907 Lakeside Drive in Cedar Valley just north of Oakhurst – just follow the signs. The station’s phone number is 683-0600.
