David Caris
Sierra Art Trails 2015 Catalog #43
Working with clay has become a need for me. I love the feel, the texture, the ability to form it into a new being and then alter it as my feelings suggest.
I don’t work with clay every day because it is so consuming I would not be able to pursue other interests. When I am working I usually have a goal in mind but often the work will go in another direction and I go with the flow.
Most recently I have been making larger vessels, sculptures and trompe-l’oeil. I enjoy trying new techniques, always looking to improve my creations.
Most of my work has an organic feeling with some tending toward the abstract. My favorite artist is Picasso.
I am also a yoga teacher, a former USAF pilot and business owner. I studied ceramics at the Cleveland Art Institute and at Fresno State. Clay, along with Yoga, is at my center.
