Crews Respond To Two Vegetation Fires In Madera County

O’NEALS — Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire in O’Neals up behind the Ponderosa Telephone Company this morning.

Just before 8:30 a.m., reports came in of a fire off Road 200 near Lilly Mine Way.

The first unit at scene reported the fire at about five acres, burning in open grass land with a moderate rate of spread.

Nine engines, two crews and a water tender were sent out in the initial dispatch, and about 15 minutes later, four additional water tenders were called up.

By about 9:38 a.m. they had the fire contained, with 2-3 hours for mop-up.

Then at 9:22 a.m., a new start was reported on Road 417 at Modoc in the Coarsegold area. Air Attack and firefighters searched for the fire, but were unable to locate.

Some engines who left the Lilly fire for the new report in Indian Lakes were sent back to O’Neals for mop-up operations.
