Crews On Scene Of A Fire Near Iron Mountain

SIERRA NATIONAL FOREST — Firefighters are on scene of a fire on the Bass Lake Ranger District just east of Fish Camp.

At about 11:40 a.m., reports came in of a vegetation fire about five miles east of Fresno Dome Campground toward Quartz Mountain trailhead, along Forest Road 6S10.

The first unit at scene reported the Iron Fire at about 100 x 50 feet in size, with 1 to 2-foot flame lengths.

Six engines, a water tender and air resources were dispatched to the incident, including Air Attack and Helicopter 520.

The incident commander reports they should be able to handle with the resources assigned.

Bucket drops by H-520 have knocked down the flames, and firefighters will be dealing with deep duff for effective mop-up.

At 12:52 p.m., any resources not already at scene were cancelled, and a few minutes later Air Attack was released. H-520 will stay as long as needed.

At 1:13 p.m., the fire was reported contained, with hose and hand line around the entire perimeter.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
