Crash Blocks Highway 41 On South End Of Deadwood

COARSEGOLD — A two-vehicle collision brought traffic on Highway 41 to a standstill for a short time this afternoon when two pickups collided near Road 425C.

At about 1 p.m. a Coarsegold woman was southbound in a 2005 Chevy pickup at a stated speed of 45 mph approaching Road 425C.

toyota-tacomaA teen driver, also from Coarsegold, in a 2014 Toyota Tacoma was at the stop sign on 425C preparing to turn northbound onto Highway 41, according to CHP at the scene.

The teen told the investigating officer that he looked both ways before proceeding. However, he did pull out directly into the path of the Chevy, whose driver said she hit the brakes and tried to swerve into the other lane to avoid the collision, but oncoming traffic in the northbound lane prevented her doing so.

Both trucks sustained major front end damage and one came to rest blocking the southbound lane of Highway 41.

Cal Fire Engine 4295 responded to the scene, and firefighters implemented one-lane traffic control as the vehicles were removed from the roadway.

Sierra Ambulance personnel checked out all involved — including two teenage passengers in the Toyota — and all had complaints of pain, likely from the seatbelts and airbag deployment, but none required transport for medical treatment.
