Crash Blocks Deadwood, Ends In DUI Arrest

OAKHURST – A single-vehicle crash just south of Oakhurst on Highway 41 yesterday ended with one person being arrested for driving under the influence.

Just after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, Kristina May Tallent, 34, of Oakhurst, was southbound just past Victoria Lane at the 40 mph corner when she drifted off the right side of the road, hit the embankment and spun around several times, coming to rest blocking the southbound lane, according to CHP.

Sierra Ambulance responded to evaluate both the driver and her male passenger. The driver was found to have only minor injuries, including a cut on her head which was treated at the scene.

Tallent was then administered a field sobriety test and the officer determined she was under the influence of alcohol.

She was placed under arrest, transported by CHP to the hospital for a medical clearance, and then taken to the Madera County Department of Corrections.

The force of the impact scattered debris across the roadway, which was closed down for about 20 minutes as the scene was cleared and the car was pushed out of the traffic lanes.

The accident remains under investigation.
