Community Opens Hearts And Wallets After YHS Volleyball Team Burglarized

OAKHURST — On the evening Thursday, Sept. 14, the Yosemite High School Girls Varsity Volleyball Team’s van was burglarized after their victory at Bullard High School in Fresno.

While the girls were enjoying a celebratory meal at Chili’s after the match, someone broke into their van and stole most of their belongings such as backpacks, wallets, 7 out of 13 jerseys, textbooks, volleyball equipment, etc.

“As a fellow student, I watched all these girls fundraise in all of their spare time, so that they could have the best volleyball season possible,” said Shellee Hance on the GoFundMe page she set up for the team after the incident.

“These girls work harder than anyone I’ve ever seen to be the best players they possibly can. I am asking help from the community to help replace their jerseys and everything lost as soon as possible so these girls can keep making YHS proud!”

Shellee’s efforts were well-rewarded, as the community’s generosity and support pushed past the $3,500 goal within one day, with donations ranging from $5 to $500.
