COARSEGOLD — The Coarsegold Chamber of Commerce 2018 Installation Dinner and Award Presentation was held at Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino on Friday, Jan. 12.
Guests enjoyed a delicious meal with members of the business community, while awards were given out for Volunteer, Business, Man, and Woman of the Year. To cap off a successful twelve months, the 2018 Coarsegold Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Officers were sworn in.
A familiar name at the Chamber was duly noted as Volunteer of the Year, when Laura Young was chosen for the honor, and she says it was a shock.
“I had no idea,” notes the hard-working local Realtor, now a volunteer after having been on the Board as long as bylaws would permit. “We have fought very hard to keep this Chamber open and running. I know that our marketing efforts for our members are well received and the cost of our membership compared to the marketing exposure is a small price to pay to contribute to our community.”
Coarsegold Market was chosen as Business of the Year. The business and its owners are a crucial part of the community, the Chamber says, making themselves and the business available, donating to community causes, running a clean store with a friendly staff, and always willing to stock what’s needed.
Local Armed Forces veteran and retiree John Scherer was selected as Man of the Year for his many contributions and service to the community.
Sierra Tel’s Public Relations Supervisor Laura Norman received the honor for Woman of the Year, for her myriad accomplishments and community service in times of well-being and in crisis, including the foundation of Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD).
“I am very proud and honored to work with Laura,” says Dan Rule of Sierra Tel. “This award is testimony to her character; she truly has the heart of a servant and we are blessed to have her on the Sierra Tel team.”
