Coarsegold 4H Thanks Soldiers And Farmers

COARSEGOLD – The 4-H pledge says, “I pledge my head for clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to greater service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, and my world.”

As a 4-H member, a lot of kids participate in community service.

We are helping people that might not have as much as we do and we are trying to make a better world.

Looking back a bit, November was the month for Thanksgiving, a day to think about all of the things we are thankful for but we should be thankful every day.

Now this month Coarsegold 4-H will be sending thank you cards to our soldiers and our farmers for the holidays. We are thankful to the soldiers who fight so we can be happy in our world and we are thankful to farmers who work hard to provide everyone with food. Farmers are important because no matter what we eat, some part of it came from a farm. I live on a little farm and it is a lot of work so I know that being a farmer must be hard.

ArtsCrafts1014For example, I wake up early to feed my goat and my lamb and clean their pen before school every day and sometimes it makes me get late to school. And I have to do it again at night every day too. They are my responsibility and I have to take care of them even if it is really hot or really cold and even if it is raining or snowing. I have 2 animals.

Farmers have a lot more to take care of. We grow some vegetables and fruits too, but if they don’t get enough water they don’t grow or they die or sometimes my animals or wildlife eat them. A farmer is in charge of a lot more plants. A farmer’s job is to raise livestock and or grow plants as food for many people. So if you know a farmer, please say thank you because their job is so important to all of us.

And I want to say thank you to all the people who keep 4-H going for kids like me. Thank you to the parents who drive us to 4-H events, the leaders who teach us, the people at the fair who give us a place to show our animals, and the buyers and supporters at the fair who help us to keep doing 4-H. Thank you.

Our leader is Pat Strimling and if you would like to join our 4-H, you can call her at 683-5149. Anyone can join! You don’t have to be a student at Coarsegold Elementary to be a member of Coarsegold 4-H, you can live anywhere in Madera County as long as you can come to our meetings.

Now you can also follow us on our new website at www.coarsegold4h.com or Facebook. Our club meetings meet the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Coarsegold Community Center.
