BASS LAKE – It was a perfect day for running, walking or cheering from the sidelines at the 29th annual Smokey Bear Run / Walk at Bass Lake on Saturday.
As the sun rose over the shores of beautiful Bass Lake, more than 350 participants gathered at Recreation Point, from the tiny 2-year-old athletes, to the most seasoned — 78-year-old Tim Kahn of Clovis.
Some were serious athletes who ran to gain points in the Valley Runner Series; others were friends and family groups who took advantage of the chance to enjoy the lake during the off-season and get some healthy exercise.
All participating children received a ribbon, and awards were given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all age divisions.
This year’s proceeds will benefit Cal Fire and USFS Fire Prevention Programs, and and Madera County Sheriff’s Crime Prevention Programs.
