Bass Lake 5K Poker Run And Go Fish Fun Run

BASS LAKE — Organizers are staging a chip-timed 5K with an exciting twist, together with a fun run for kids, and all the proceeds are designated for local charities. The 5K Poker Run and Go Fish Fun Run take place on the same day as the Bass Lake Yosemite Triathlon, on Saturday, June 3. The Triathlon begins at 7 a.m. and the 5K Poker Run and fun run start half-an-hour later.

The Pines Resort at Bass Lake is the starting point for the 5K Poker Run, open to ages 13 and over, and the Go Fish Fun Run designed for kids 12 and under.

Organizers say that 100 percent of all proceeds will go to local charities. Yosemite Gateway Realtors host the event to benefit the high school scholarship fund and the Yosemite High School athletic department.

For the 5K Poker Run, starting at 7:30 a.m., participants will collect five playing cards along the three-mile run course and try to make the best five-card poker hand. Go Fish Fun Run participants will try to get the best matching hand for ages 12 and under, with no trading of cards allowed. A five-card hand will be stapled together at the finish line, and removing staples voids the hand.

Prizes for winners include gift certificates for lodging, dining, and items from local Bass Lake area merchants. All participants will be entered into a drawing to win a two-night stay in a two-bedroom cabin at the Redwoods In Yosemite.

Register online or pick up applications at Bass Lake Realty or the visitor center at Visit Yosemite | Madera County in Oakhurst. The cost for adults is $25 if purchased before May 25 and $35 at the race. Children ages 5 to 15 years, when registering with a paid adult, are only $15 before May 25 and $20 at the race.

Early registration guarantees a custom race t-shirt and chances to win additional raffle prizes. All who finish the race will receive a custom medal. Registration fee includes a discount at the barbecue lunch provided by the Bass Lake Lions Club, and one free beer for all adults who finish the race. There’s also a race goody and information bag.

The race starts at 7:30 a.m. and everyone is advised to arrive early as traffic can get congested. There will be overflow parking at the Bass Lake Government Center with a free shuttle to the race. The start location is The Pines Village, located at 54432 Road 432 in Bass Lake, California. The air temperature for that day is expected to be about 70 degrees at start of the race, and about 80 degrees at the finish.

Poker hands will be scored according to Pokerstars.com.
