AAUW Program: Exploring China With Brian Moczygemba

MARIPOSA — The local Mariposa branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will host a talk, “Exploring the Education and Culture of China,” presented by Brian Moczygemba on Thursday, Mar. 9 at the Miner’s Roadhouse 140. The program is free and open to the public. The presentation begins at 4:30 p.m.

Moczygemba’s website displays the following quote from T.S. Eliot: “We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.”

A 2004 graduate of Mariposa County High School, Brian attended San Diego State University, and is now teaching at MCHS. His great adventure began with his journey to China. He taught 11th and 12th grade students at a private international school in Shanghai. Most of the students, while ethnically Chinese, were American, Australian, British, or Canadian.

When he first moved to China, Brian did not know a single word of Chinese, but over the years he became conversationally fluent. Living in Shanghai afforded Brian the opportunity to visit more than 30 cities in China, and also to travel to Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Laos, and Cambodia. Brian will be discussing his experiences and sharing myriad images from his extensive travels throughout China and Southeast Asia. Please join us for a fascinating peek into the education and culture of China.

This presentation is just one of several school and community programs offered by Mariposa AAUW, a branch of the 133-year-old national organization dedicated to advancing equity and lifelong learning for women and girls.
